Ingredients
  

  • 4 slices crusty bread or baguette
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella sliced
  • 2 –3 ripe tomatoes sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • 2 –3 tbsp balsamic glaze
  • 1 –2 tbsp olive oil optional
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Method
 

  1. Slice the bread.
  2. Toast until lightly golden and crisp.
  3. Slice mozzarella and tomatoes.
  4. Layer mozzarella over the toast.
  5. Add tomatoes and basil.
  6. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Drizzle with balsamic glaze.
  8. Serve immediately.

Notes

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Using unripe tomatoes
The recipe will taste flat if the tomatoes are not sweet and flavorful.
  1. Skipping the seasoning
Even simple toast needs a little salt and pepper to bring everything together.
  1. Adding too much balsamic glaze
A little goes a long way. Too much can overpower the fresh ingredients.
  1. Using very wet mozzarella straight from the package
Too much moisture can make the bread soggy.
